Blues guitarist Eric Gales is celebrated by many other international guitarists as being one of the best guitar players alive today. They’re not wrong and whilst he is surely flattered by the praise, he avoids self-indulgence on this latest album by judicious use of guitar virtuosity, instead allowing the melody lines to capture attention. That tactic should see the guitarist’s career trajectory moving further upwards as a result and deservedly so. Also, a wide spectrum of guests including Gary Clark Jr. and varying instrumentation offers greater dynamics such that when the fiery, expressive guitar solos or deftly arranged rhythmic parts take hold, the album offers a more invigorating listening experience. Lyrically testimonial yet with an uplifting angle via Eric’s vocal delivery means his unique guitar playing style and great tone are also enhanced. A highly recommended artist and album.
